Hurricanes, Floods, Desertification

A major issue of combating climate change on a global level is the fact that many of the countries that are affected the most by climate change are also the least equiped to handle the consequences. Globally, people living in poverty do not have the stability to withstand the affects of climate change. For instance, in Sub-Saharan Africa, droughts and floods have forced 10 million people to migrate over the past 20 years, and world hunger rose in 2019 for the first time in years. Another example is Jakarta, Indonesia, where people living in slums have already been displaced due to extreme flooding. Both the rural communities of Sub-Saharan Africa and the people in slums of Jakarta have one thing in common that is seen in patterns of destruction in the world: they were low-income communities to begin with, and climate change destroyed their homes and means of survival. Climate change has the most visible effects on communities that don't have the means to protect themselves.
